Sensitive teeth
Certain stimuli (hot/cold and sour/salty/bitter/sweet/etc.) may cause short and sharp tooth pain. The condition can be referred to as sensitive teeth or dentin hyperesthesia.
There are a number of causes and risk factors leading to sensitive teeth, such as enamel loss, dental fractures, chemical stimuli, incorrect brushing technique, exposure of dentin or root surface caused by gingival regression or periodontal damage with age.
Should sensitive teeth go untreated, more serious problems may occur such as loss of tooth vitality, disease and even tooth loss.
Proper brushing with special toothpaste and regular six-month dentist checkups are recommended to avoid the problem of sensitive teeth.
